Bordallo stresses value of experience

GUAM Delegate Madeleine Z. Bordallo stressed the value of experience during her speech yesterday at the Rotary Club of Northern Guam meeting.

Bordallo reminded the Rotarians of all work that had been done during the five terms she had been serving as Guam’s delegate to Congress and how the progress made could be lost if she is not re-elected.

“The relationships I have built during my tenure as your delegate means that I have more influence on issues than any delegate would have,” Bordallo told the Rotarians.

If a new candidate were to take the seat, they would have to start from the bottom, Bordallo stressed.

Bordallo also pointed out that she had been continuously pushing war claims and the issue had progressed farther than it had in the years before her term had started.

In addition, Bordallo said she had been working for a fair and beneficial military buildup for Guam.

Bordallo also discussed her efforts for more Compact Impact funds for Guam, improved health care, the Russia visa waiver, and the economy.

“These and many questions about the direction for Guam and our nation are the reasons I am running for re-election. But above all, I am running to ensure that our families on Guam will have an avenue for their success,” Bordallo concluded.

I don't think anyone can say that Congresswoman Bordallo has produced nothing. She may not have gotten war claims, but she has done a hell of a lot for Guam. Just off the top of my head she: Made all of Guam a HUBZone so that all local small businesses get a preference for federal contracts; established the PTAC at UOG to make sure small businesses can compete on equal footing; got funding for the veterans clinic in Agana Heights; got more than $280 million in stimulus funds for Guam; got more than $260 million more for Medicaid in the ACA; and got parole authority for Russian tourists to visit Guam.

Just because she turned down the deal for war claims doesn't mean she has produced nothing (which I'm pretty sure if she took it, people would have cried bloody murder and she wouldn't have even been a candidate in the last election). Guam has more issues than just war claims, and I for one wouldn't want a delegate who only focuses on one issue.

So far as I see it, her experience and ten years if gaining that experence has produced nothing. The one time she had a chance to get her war claims she threw it away. The war claims should be fr SUVIVORS no the suvivors of suvivors. Pretty soon there will be no more suvivors and on that day congress will no longer entertain the subject.
