A MAN, only identified as being in his 20s, was electrocuted in Chalan Pågo yesterday afternoon.

According to Guam Fire Department Officer Ed Artero, rescue personnel were dispatched to the incident which happened along Chalan Okso by Santa Cruz Street at around 3:20 p.m.

The responding personnel came across a man who was stuck in a tree. He was reportedly picking lemmai (breadfruit) from a tree. The Variety learned the man climbed the tree and was using a pole to pick lemmai. However, the weight of the pole was heavy and it came into contact with active power lines.

The Guam Power Authority was notified to shut off electricity in the area. GPA spokesman Art Perez confirms the person was not a GPA employee or contractor.

Power was temporarily cut in areas of Chalan Pågo, Maimai and parts of Sinajaña as GPA line crews in the immediate area assisted emergency responders. Power was restored before 5 p.m.

The man was transported to Guam Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
