FIRST responders and representatives from local and federal government agencies yesterday took part in a training and exercise planning workshop to ensure they have a concise plan over the next few years for the implementation of security and emergency management strategies.
According to Alyssa Benito, spokesperson for Guam Homeland Security, the workshop is required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to be held annually.
“But more importantly, it is a chance for our jurisdiction and other agencies to get together and revise our challenges,” she said. “For 2013, we’re looking to stack our calendar with a concept of operations.”
Representatives who attended the workshop included the Guam Police Department, Airport Police, the U.S. Navy, and even the Department of Parks and Recreation.
DPR Director Pete Calvo was grateful for the training. “I think it’s good we’re going through a calendar,” he said, acknowledging his department needs to be retrained, especially since they also deal with emergency situations.
