Official completion of Alageta Road celebrated

ALAGETA Road (Route 25) in Dededo is officially open for business. A ribbon-cutting ceremony held yesterday recognized the completion of the roadway. The reconstruction and widening of Alageta began in May 2010 and was originally scheduled for completion by 2011. Due to utility conflicts, heavy rains and issues with the asphalt formula, the completion date was pushed back to this July.

“Our island residents are able to benefit from a safer road to travel,” said Department of Public Works Director Joanne Brown.

The road is heavily used by Dededo residents and island residents at large. During the two years that construction was underway, motorists were advised to detour or avoid the area completely.

Alageta Road has been paved and widened and there were several upgrades made to improve the roadway, including underwater drainage, retaining walls, pavement markings and signs, and other miscellaneous work upgrades.

The ARRA-funded project cost $7.6 million.
