Verga starts on Monday

JOSEPH Verga will be taking over as administrator of Guam Memorial Hospital next Monday, Aug. 20, about six weeks after his original start date of July 1.

The delay was caused by last-minute revisions that were made to the administrator’s contract at the end of June. These revisions were not reviewed and approved by the Governor’s Office until early July.

One addition to the contract is a provision for Verga’s airfare and that of a dependent.

There will also be an increase in his temporary per diem housing allowance from $229 per day to $255 per day. The allowance will cover 50 days instead of the 30 days provided for in the original contract.

The administrator’s base salary will remain at $200,000 a year, as stated in the May contract.

“I think Mr. Verga’s track record, experience and knowledge speak for themselves,” said GMH interim Administrator Ray Vega. “He is very welcome and has the credentials to make things happen at GMH. It’s a win-win situation for GMH and the government of Guam.
