IT’S only been about two weeks and once again the price at the pump has gone up, this time by 15 cents.
Late Tuesday night, gas at 76 and Mobil was at $4.67 a gallon for regular unleaded fuel, $4.97 for premium unleaded, and $4.91 for diesel. Shell increased its prices last night.
The increase in fuel may be a concern for the Department of Public Works since it is preparing its buses for the new school year next week.
But DPW Deputy Director Carl Dominguez said they have a contract with Shell and 76 in the southern part of the island to gas their bus fleet at a discounted price.
“I think we’ll be okay as long as the price doesn’t spike up too bad past $5,” he said, adding a spike would also affect other amenities the department utilizes such as streetlights.
“It hurts everybody – the private sector, government,” he said. “I personally hope the price won’t go up and if God is good to us, the price will go down.”
Meanwhile, Reuters reports the price for crude oil was just above $93 a barrel yesterday in Asia.
Benchmark crude was reportedly down 32 cents to $93.35 a barrel yesterday afternoon in Singapore in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
