THE Guam Power Authority yesterday reported a power outage at around 2 p.m. beginning with an incident at Tanguisson (Tango) Power Plant Switchyard.

According to GPA, line crews reported “a blown bushing, a type of hardware on breaker equipment, that caused both Tango Units, rated at 25 megawatts, to go offline.”

The damaged equipment caused outages to customers in Mangilao, parts of Yoña, Chalan Pago, parts of Tamuning by Guam Premier Outlets, parts of Liguan Terrace, Harmon toward Nikko Hotel in Tumon, and areas around Micronesia Mall.

Lightning was suspected to have caused the damage to the equipment, according to GPA.

Emergency backup generators were brought online to restore power. All circuits were restored at around 2:40 p.m. yesterday afternoon.

GPA Communications Manager Art Perez said isolated incidents of power outages were also reported yesterday. However, the outages were not caused by the incident in Tanguisson.
