GOV. Eddie Calvo yesterday held a proclamation signing at the Governor’s Complex in Adelup, declaring August 2012 as Child Support Awareness Month, and designating the week of Aug. 13 to 27 in recognition of the Passenger Carrier Strike Force Initiative.
As part of Child Support Awareness Month, the governor, along with the Office of the Attorney General of Guam’s Child Support Enforcement Division, urged Guamanians to reach out and support the island’s children.
“As a community, we need to come together and prioritize children, not just in their education, but for their general well-being,” Calvo stated. “Let’s also celebrate and commend the committed child support professionals, parents and guardians who make it their mission to help.”
Shortly thereafter, representatives from the Department of Revenue and Taxation, Guam Police Department and the Department of Public Works’ Office of Highway Safety gathered with Calvo to proclaim the launch of the Passenger Carrier Strike Force Initiative.
This safety initiative, according to the proclamation, incorporates greater presence of public safety officials on the roads and allows highway safety personnel to inspect and enforce vehicle, driver and passenger safety laws.
“This is a time for the community to work together and see that our roadways are safer for us and our loved ones,” Calvo said.
