A $3.5 million Community Facility Direct Loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture has been approved for the renovation of the Guam Community College Foundation Building.

After the completion of the renovation project, the building will house GCC’s Bookstore, four classrooms, GCC’s café lounge, a meeting room, restrooms, storage and utility rooms on the first floor, according to a news release from Guam Delegate Madeleine Bordallo’s office.

In addition, three testing rooms, three classrooms, offices, waiting areas, and other supporting spaces will be accommodated on the second floor.

“This USDA loan will be used to make much-needed upgrades to GCC’s Foundation Building,” Bordallo said.

“The improvements and new facilities that will be built will increase GCC’s ability and capacity to provide the education and training our community needs. I commend Dr. Mary Okada (GCC president and CEO) for working to secure this loan, and I thank her for her continued efforts to improve education on Guam,” she added.

In response to the news, Okada said: “We are very appreciative of Delegate Bordallo’s assistance in obtaining this funding for our newly renovated Foundation Building, and of the continued confidence and support from her office and from the USDA for GCC’s projects. These funds will help the college to ensure student success by providing upgraded facilities that heighten our learning environment.”
