THE Guam Power Authority recently announced the completion of the Hagåtña 115kV and 34.5 kV Breaker Replacement Project, which will be marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony today at 10:30 a.m. at the project location in Roy T. Damian St., Mongmong.

The project covered replacement of old equipment to modern and automated hardware, consisting of breakers, potential transformers, disconnect switches, control and relay panels, backup battery systems, perimeter lighting, AC/DC panels, cable trays, and control circuits.

According to GPA General Manager Joaquin C. Flores, the ceremony highlights a “$3 million investment to improve efficiency, power quality and reliability to GPA customers in the central and northern villages.”

The upgrades are critical since the substation “serves as a bulk substation in the transmission of power from our baseload plants in Piti to the central and northern parts of Guam – thereby stabilizing power service in these areas.”

Flores added the Hagåtña substation is just one of the capital improvement project investments GPA will be focusing on over the next five years.

“Customers can expect a higher level of service with the completion of this project as GPA is better able to plan and execute maintenance work and maintain power quality – more projects like the Hagåtña substation upgrade project are underway,” he concluded.
