Suspects to be arraigned in MGM case

TWO more defendants involved in the MGM Spa illegal gambling case are scheduled to appear for an arraignment on a second superseding indictment this morning in the District Court of Guam.

Wai Kam Ho and Jennie Wen Chin Pau are to enter their plea before Magistrate Judge Joaquin Manibusan on charges of conspiracy; illegal gambling business; 36 counts of money laundering; four counts of structuring; and criminal forfeiture.

Two other defendants, Jimmy Hsieh and William Perez, pleaded not guilty to all the charges last month.

The four are alleged to have operated an illegal gambling business in the basement of the MGM Spa in Tamuning from January 2006 to December 2010.

A jury trial was scheduled for Aug. 21 but will be moved to a later time. Meanwhile, a hearing on some of the defendants’ motion to dismiss the charges is set for Sept. 20 at 1:30 p.m. before Chief Judge Frances Tydingco-Gatewood.
