Man allegedly wanted to trade firearms for drugs

  • PDF

A 37-year-old man was arrested Monday afternoon after allegedly going on a search for drugs to trade with his rifle.

Rudy Gumataotao Palomo visited a Yigo residence, allegedly toting with him a 30/30 rifle and asking where he could exchange the rifle for drugs.

The victim, who told police he hadn’t seen Palomo in 20 years, stated Palomo at one point chambered a round and started pointing it at the jungle and then at the victim. According to Superior Court documents, the victim asked Palomo to put the gun away to which he complied. Palomo then left the residence, accompanied by Shaun Martinez.

Palomo and Martinez were apprehended shortly on Route 1 in Yigo by police after receiving the victim’s report. During a consented search of the vehicle, police discovered a 30/30 silver lever action rifle with no butt stock, with one round in the chamber, located under the passenger’s seat, court documents stated.

According to Martinez, the rifle belonged to Palomo, and Palomo allegedly told him he “wanted to trade it for drugs and that [Palomo] had the rifle with him at all times, hiding it under his seat when they were pulled over,” court documents stated.

Palomo denied ownership of the rifle and said it belonged to Martinez. Neither Palomo nor Martinez had a firearms identification card.

Palomo was charged yesterday in Superior Court with possession of a firearm without an identification as a third degree felony; possession of a concealed firearm as a third degree felony; and reckless conduct as a misdemeanor.

How's that "most restrictive in the nation" gun control program on Guam working these days? Ever read about a firearms arrest here involving a duly registered gun and owner? I thought not. As the saying goes, 'When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns", and we're not far away from that situation in Guam (along with Washington D.C., Detroit, Chicago and a few other rabid gun control communities).
