TWO Department of Youth Affairs clients didn’t get far Monday night after escaping from their dorm room at the Mangilao facility.

DYA spokesman Bill Castro said the boys, ages 15 and 16, were discovered missing at around 9:50 p.m. Guam Police Department officers were called for assistance and DYA correction officers conducted a search in the area surrounding DYA.

“It is believed they pried open one of the windows. They managed to get out and eventually made their escape,” Castro said, adding the escapees probably scaled the fence and climbed over.

The boys were apprehended by GPD SWAT at around 1:15 a.m. behind the Castle Mall in Mangilao near the University of Guam.

The boys were previous clients and came back in for violations of their respective court orders. They were released at one point and were remanded for not showing up for their court-mandated appointment or for community service. One boy faces fourth degree criminal sexual conduct while the other boy was charged with third degree aggravated assault.

Meanwhile, Castro said an internal affairs investigation is ongoing into how the kids made it out of the facility.

He said the kids are on lockdown and their privileges were revoked pending further inquiry by the director.
