Dizon talks economics, war claims to Rotarians

CALLING it his first major speech before a major organization, congressional delegate candidate Karlo Dizon addressed members of the Rotary Club of Guam yesterday at the Marriott hotel in Tumon.

During his talk, Dizon touched on his platform, especially his plans for improving the island’s economy.

“This is a sector of politics that is not touched upon. None of the two other candidates are speaking about how they intend to grow our economy and what steps they need to take, whether idealistic or realistic, to grow our economy to beyond where it is today,” said Dizon, referring to Republican congressional candidate Frank Blas Jr. and Democrat incumbent Madeleine Bordallo.

He stressed that the Guam delegate’s seat is vital in transmitting the island’s needs before the federal government.

Dizon said his focus as a candidate would be to ease federal restrictions to encourage private enterprise and more investments on-island.

With regard to war claims, Dizon was asked about Bordallo’s decision to turn down the U.S. Senate’s war reparation offer in 2010.

“What I would have done is taken the offer,” Dizon answered. “I think to turn it down because of pressures within her party and because of considerations of her political positioning in the party was misguided,” Dizon said.

Bordallo at the time said she turned down the proposal from the U.S. Senate because it was only for World War II survivors who were still alive and did not include descendants of those who passed away.

I agree it was a mistake to not take the senates offer and then negotiate for more later, a lot of the people who were going to benefit from it are now passing on.

It seems easy to say that the congresswoman wanted more for the people but she cost them everything. Now Karlo offers a plan B growing our economy. I have yet to hear her proposals where is she now!?
