THE 2012 Guam election process continues this Saturday when the Guam Election Commission meets to certify the candidates for the primary election and to approve the ballot design.

The meeting will be held 1:30 p.m. at the GEC conference room in the GCIC building in Hagåtña.

At 3:30 p.m., the lottery for ballot placement will take place. All candidates for the positions of delegate, senator and mayor who have an opponent for their position in the same party will draw the number their name will appear on the ballot.

Each candidate will be called up alphabetically to verify the way their names will appear.

This year’s election will see 16 Democrats and 18 Republicans running for the Legislature; one Democrat, two Republicans, and one Independent running for delegate; and 42 candidates running for mayor and 14 for vice mayor.

The last day to turn in candidacy packets was Tuesday. A total of 98 candidates filed for candidacy. All documentation will be reviewed by GEC officials, including the verification of the petitions.
