AS PART of its 60th anniversary, the University of Guam is celebrating Founders Day today beginning at 9 a.m. at the Mangilao campus.
The all-day event kicks off with the rededication of the Presidents Grove to be held in the grassy area to the right of the UOG Field House entrance to the campus. According to UOG, the street which goes past the Presidents Grove will be renamed Presidents Lane, with the unveiling of the new street signs as part of the ceremony.
From 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., UOG will host Founders Day displays at the Field House, featuring a look at the history and development of UOG colleges, schools and units.
Don’t miss the Founders Day Recognition Ceremony to be held 10:30 a.m. The university will honor its founders – those who have contributed to the start of the Territorial College of Guam and its development during its founding years 1952 to 1968.
“We have come a long way since 1952, when the Territorial College of Guam started in a humble Quonset hut building in Mongmong,” UOG President Dr. Robert Underwood stated. “For the university’s 60th anniversary, we want to honor and showcase the founders who have contributed to the growth and success of the University of Guam.”
Following today’s activities, the university will continue its Founders Day celebration with a gala tomorrow evening. The formal event will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Guam Grand Ballroom.
