A POLICE officer escaped serious injury after the patrol car he was driving was rear-ended by a PT Cruiser early yesterday morning.

Guam Police Department acting spokesman Sgt. Mike Aguon said around 1:40 a.m., Highway Patrol responded to the incident which occurred along Route 1 by the Bank of Hawaii in Hagåtña.

The police officer, Sgt. Rocky Anciano, was on duty and heading south when the driver of the PT Cruiser, Albert Thomas Manibusan, hit Anciano from behind and forced the sergeant off the road, with his car hitting a tree on a median lane. The PT Cruiser also overturned. The patrol vehicle received extensive damage.

Aguon said Anciano sustained pain in the facial area and upper body, probably from the deployment of the air bag.

Manibusan, 26, of Tamuning, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Guam Memorial Hospital for treatment. After he was released from the hospital, Manibusan was arrested by police and charged with DUI with injuries and reckless driving with injuries. He was booked and confined.

Attempted suicide

Meanwhile, emergency units and police responded to a call regarding an alleged suicide attempt on the top floor of the Pacific Islands Club garage in Tumon.

Guam Fire Department acting spokesman Lt. Phil Camacho said their 911 dispatch office received the call at around 12:37 p.m. and was told by the PIC operator that someone was threatening to jump.
