THE annual Manenggon memorial service will take place Saturday, July 7 at the Manenggon site in Yoña at 3:30 p.m.
The memorial service will be followed by Holy Mass with the celebrant, Reverend Anthony Sablan Apuron. World War II survivors and the public are invited to attend this event to honor the wartime experiences and struggles of the people of Guam during World War II.
The Manenggon memorial event was established and first coordinated by the late Speaker Antonio Unpingco and is continued by the Manenggon Memorial Foundation, led by its chairperson, Sen. Tina Muña-Barnes.
Manenggon was the site of a concentration camp during the Japanese occupation of Guam in World War II.
In 1944, Chamorros throughout the island were forced to march to the site and were held in captivity until United States forces took control of the island.
