PARENTS of students at J.Q. San Miguel Elementary School are highly encouraged to attend a Parent Fair at the school today from 3 to 6 p.m.

According to an email statement from the school principal, the purpose of the event is to improve parental involvement and nurture a positive relationship with parents.

“We have invited agencies that provide services to families; we're having a yard sale, spaghetti plate dinners, kids activities and more,” said Principal Tricia Moylan. “We have also secured transportation from Toto Gardens and Chamorro Gardens to assist parents who may not have private transportation.”

Agencies that will be present are the Guam Community College, Public Health, Sanctuary Inc., GMHA, Dept. of Youth Affairs, social workers, Healing Hearts, Catholic Social Services, and more.

Moylan noted that flyers were created in English and the Chuukese language, in an effort to reach out and have better communication with the minority students.

“Chuukese is the largest minority population in our school and we wanted to do a better job at communicating with our ESL parents,” Moylan indicated.

The Parent Fair will be held at the J.Q. San Miguel cafeteria. Tickets for the spaghetti fundraiser are on sale for $6.
