Consider your vote carefully

WE ARE now about five weeks away from the mid-term election, and if you are wondering who you should vote for, consider a candidate’s track record and the type of person he/she is. A poll came out recently and, as I have thought in the past, we on Guam will in all likelihood select those most familiar to us. There are some who have entered the race with only their names and relations to go for them. If you feel that much has been accomplished by those presently in office, then vote for them once again. If you feel that little has been done, look at the list of newcomers and consider them for your vote of confidence.

When we vote people into office, we do so with the hope that when the time comes, they will do the right thing for us and be accessible to us when we have need of them. It has grown to where many of our leaders will not have anything to do with us if we didn't help them in the campaign. The thing is, just because you helped out in the campaign doesn't guarantee anything.

Over the next couple of years, expectations will be there, and word has it that many in the government will lose their jobs at the same time top officials say their number one desire is to provide jobs for the people. I would like to know what they have in mind when they implement this plan. I’m sure others feel that way too.
