ALTHOUGH there are many efforts made to keep Guam clean, it has come to my attention that we still have trash marring our beautiful island.
There are many places on-island where you can find piles of trash. The reason for those piles of trash being there is a question I ponder. I believe if we better educate people about the harmful effects of their terrible actions, they will understand the reasons why they must put all trash in the proper places. I have participated in many cleanups at illegal dump sites, and let me say, "It is not a pretty site."
I want this issue to be addressed in the newspaper because everyone needs to know the harmful effects of illegal dumping. The piles of trash contain some items that carry harmful chemicals such as motor oil and pesticides. When these chemicals seep into our aquifers they can cause serious health issues; our drinking water will get contaminated. I truly believe if we all unite and go out to clean our island, it will look more beautiful. Also, if everyone puts their trash in the proper places, we will have fewer environmental problems. We should all stick together and keep our island clean. Go green, Guam!
