BECAUSE of its popularity and demand, Shiro's Head will once again have featured showings, but this time for a unique cause.

There will be eight special showings of Guam's first full-length feature film at the University of Guam's College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) Lecture Hall.  Cost is $5 per person and seating is limited.
The proceeds from the event will help three sociology students travel to Indonesia and present a film they produced last year.

Prof. Kirk Johnson, sociology professor at UOG, is grateful to the producers of Shiro's Head, Kel and Don Muna, for having their movie shown again starting today up to the weekend.

"Their efforts are going to support student film makers who produced a small documentary last year which has been accepted for presentation at The East-West Center's International Conference to be held in Indonesia next month.  The Muna brothers are helping fund their travel through these screenings of Shiro's Head this weekend.  Their humility and generosity are examples for us all," Johnson said.

The UOG student-produced film is entitled "Casting Our Net: Rediscovering Community in the 21st Century" and will be featured in East-West Center's International Conference called "Building an Asia Pacific Community: Unity in Diversity" next month.

Meanwhile, Johnson commended the Muna brothers on Shiro's Head, especially since it was made by two sons of Guam.

"This is a landmark given the fact that in the coming years, when we have an established film industry on Guam, locals as well as people from elsewhere in the region can produce films that the world will no doubt want to see. Shiro's Head will always be remembered as the project that broke through all barriers," Johnson said. "I have heard the brothers talk about the Ti Mamalao factor on Guam and we will forever be grateful that they took the leap and that enough people on Guam supported their courage and vision," he added.

The show times for Shiro's Head at the CLASS Lecture Hall are Thursday through Sunday (Oct. 30 through Nov. 2) at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on those nights.

Tickets again are $5 per person and are available at the following locations: UTTAM'S Plasma City/Auto Sounds (across Linda's Café) at 314 East Marine Corps Drive (477-4388), and I. P. Coffee Co., University Drive, Mangilao (727-4518).

There will be additional tickets on the aforementioned dates starting 4 p.m. For further information, please contact the CLASS Division office at 735-2870.
