BEFORE drinking and driving, use the bathroom.
That's what Jay R. Artero Echipare, 22, learned last Friday after he was arrested for driving under the influence and speeding.
Echipare was driving drunk at a rate of 70 mph because, as he explained to the officer who pulled him over, he desperately needed the bathroom, court documents state.
"[The police officer] observed Echipare's shorts which were soaking wet in the crotch region and inquired if Echipare had urinated on himself. Echipare stated that he had," court documents read.
When the officer asked Echipare if he had been drinking, Echipare said yes and told the officer he had about five beers. He subsequently agreed to a standardized field sobriety test which rendered a blood alcohol content of .161.
Echipare's brush with the law and his inability to control his pee apparently humiliated him as he promised he would never drink again, court documents state.
But that wasn't enough to let him off. Echipare was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, and speeding.
