(PAG)-- The Port Authority of Guam has been awarded more than $2 million in federal grants to boost the security systems at the island’s only commercial sea port.
“We are pleased that this money was awarded so that we may continue to upgrade our security systems here at the Port,” said Port general manager Enrique J.S. Agustin. “Enhanced security measures are a critical part of our modernization program so these projects will fall in line with our efforts to upgrade and modernize our crucial facility.”
The Port applied for $2.2 million in Port Security Grant Program funding this year, and was recently notified that it was awarded the entire amount.
“This funding will allow us to integrate our information with other local and federal security agencies and will take the Port Authority of Guam to the next level with regards to maritime and port security,” Agustin said.
The $2.2 million will be used to integrate the agency’s CCTV Security Surveillance Cameras, access control systems, radar and intrusion detection systems and the Maritime and Port Security Operations Center.
